The Suncor Coke Boiler Replacement project consists of replacing three existing petroleum coke boilers with two new cogeneration trains to modernize the aging system in order to generate steam more efficiently and increase their capacity. The previous equipment dates back to the 1960s and was deeply integrated with the Suncor Base Plant assets. A project of this scale and breadth required the focus and effort of many teams, including experienced millwrights, to succeed. BuLa supported this project with our millwright services, including the installation of rotating equipment like new boiler feedwater pumps, laser alignments, grouting and pipe strain testing.
The High Voltage (HV) scope consisted of completing the furnished high voltage equipment and infrastructure, upgrading existing Oil Sands Base Plant HV Systems, and linking/interfacing the cogeneration plant to the ATCO infrastructure and the Alberta Interconnected Electric System (AIES). This work supports a fully functional new cogeneration facility for steam production for Suncor Base Plant operations and power export to the Alberta grid.
